- Borrowed Hearts: A Holiday Romance.
Borrowed Hearts is an endearing made-for-tv movie about a
women, Kathleen, who's saving to buy a house for herself and
her daughter, Zoe. She meets Sam, a businessman, who has to
pretend he has a family in order to close a business deal
with mysterious Javier Del Campo. As the owner of the
company that Kathleen works for, Sam convinces her to help
him out. But, Campo is more than he seems and it's Zoe who's
making the real deal to get a new home for herself, her
mother, and Sam.
- The Family Man.
Jack Campbell (Nicholas Cage) is a career driven man who has
everything until Christmas Eve when he intervenes in a
convenience store holdup. On Christmas morning, Jack wakes
up with a new life, one where he is married to his college
sweetheart (Tea Leoni), has two children, and is a tire
salesman. The Family Man is a romantic holiday comedy that
will warm your heart.
- The Bishop's Wife.
Busy campaigning for the construction of a new cathedral, a
bishop (Cary Grant) has become distant and neglectful. This
holiday season marks a new low, and it looks as though
nothing short of a miracle can help the bishop's wife
(Loretta Young) save her marriage. A miracle, or perhaps an
angel... Cary Grant plays the angel who comes to earth in
this heartwarming Christmas fantasy. The Preacher's Wife,
starring Whitney Houston, was the 1996 remake of this
classic.
The Shop Around the Corner.
One winter, a romance blossoms between two anonymous pen
pals (James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan). Little do they
realize that they already know each other (and hate each
other) in person! As Christmas draws near, the two decide to
meet, but can their love conquer their hate? This lovely,
romantic film was the inspiration for the Meg Ryan and Tom
Hanks comedy You've Got Mail.
White Christmas.
Crosby and Kaye are song-and-dance men who hook up,
romantically and professionally, with a "sister" act
(Clooney and Vera-Ellen) to put on a Big Show to benefit the
struggling ski-resort lodge run by the beloved old retired
general (Dean Jagger) of their WWII Army outfit.
While You Were Sleeping.
On Christmas Day, Lucy (Sandra Bullock) saves the life of a
handsome stranger, Peter (Peter Gallagher), who falls into a
coma. At the hospital, she is mistaken for his fiancée by
Peter's relatives and is welcomed into the family. With no
family of her own, Lucy cannot resist acting the part of
daughter-in-law during the holiday season. The illusion
would be complete except for one tiny problem: Lucy is
falling for Peter's brother, Jack (Bill Pullman). This
delightful romantic comedy is a perfect pick for a winter
evening.
Remember the Night.
This romantic comedy about the tentative courtship between a
beautiful shoplifter and the prosecutor trying to put her in
the hoosgow -- just not during Christmas -- is a wonderful
holiday gem. Starring tough yet tender Fred MacMurray and
streetwise yet fragile Barbara Stanwyck, this Preston
Sturges-penned jewel has enough zany elements and dark
undertones to make this what some consider to be a noir
screwball comedy.
Untamed Heart.
It's another lonely holiday season for Adam (Christian
Slater), a painfully shy young man. Orphaned and cursed with
a heart ailment, Adam has never allowed himself to get close
to anyone. That is, until he notices Caroline (Marissa Tomei),
a waitress at the diner at which he works. After he rescues
her from a violent attack, she begins to notice him, too. A
movie about finding love in unexpected places, this one is
sure to touch your heart.
Mixed Nuts.
Starring Steve Martin, Rita Wilson, Juliette Lewis, Adam
Sandler
In Venice Beach, California, on Christmas Eve, the oddball
staff of a suicide help-line center are going berserk. If
wacky, wildly funny humor appeals to you, check out this
off-the-wall holiday film, directed by Nora Ephron. From the
ukulele-playing neighbor to the transvestite groupie, every
character in this film is a "character." This hysterically
funny movie is also a heartwarming, romantic comedy.
One Magic Christmas.
It's an especially tough year for one young mother whose
worries have robbed her of any holiday cheer. Luckily, her
resourceful daughter hooks up with Santa and a guardian
angel to turn their Christmas around. Sensitive and truly
